Chapter 4. The Messiah: His Advent and the Purpose of His Second Coming

If we are to believe literally the prophecies of Scripture, we should expect that when Jesus comes again, the saints will come back to life in the flesh. Their bodies, buried in the earth and completely decomposed, will be reconstituted to their original state (I Thess. 4:16), (Matt. 27:52). On the one hand, these prophecies are the Word of God, and as people of faith we must accept them.

On the other hand, given the modern state of our knowledge, they do not make rational sense. This brings great confusion to the Christian faith. Therefore, it is important that we elucidate the true meaning of resurrection.

성서(聖書)의 예언을 문자 그대로 받아들인다면, 예수님이 재림(再臨)하실 때에는 이미 흙 속에 파묻혀 삭아져 버린 모든 성도(聖徒)들의 육신이 다시 원상(原狀) 그대로의 모습으로 살아 나올 것으로 보아야 한다(살전 4 : 16, 마 27 : 52). 이것은 하나님이 주신 말씀이기 때문에, 우리의 신앙적인 입장에서는 그대로 받아들이지 않을 수 없다.

그러나 이것은 현대인의 이성(理性)으로는 도저히 납득할 수 없는 사실이기 때문에, 결국 우리들의 신앙생활에 커다란 혼란을 가져오게 된다. 그러므로 이 문제의 진정한 내용을 해명하는 것은 지극히 중요한 일이 아닐 수 없는 것이다.

Якщо тлумачити біблійні пророцтва буквально, то доведеться припустити, що під час Другого пришестя Господа фізичні тіла всіх святих, які раніше були поховані та зазнали розкладу, знову повернуться до життя в їхньому попередньому стані (1 Сол. 4:16; Матв. 27:52). Оскільки Біблія — Слово Боже, ми, будучи людьми віруючими, повинні вірити тому, що в ній сказано.

Однак для людини, яка володіє сучасним рівнем знань, ці пророцтва звучать непереконливо, і це одна з причин того, що релігійне життя суспільства перебуває сьогодні в стані цілковитого безладу. Тому з'ясувати справжнє значення воскресіння є для нас справою надзвичайної важливості.
