Which came first, life or love? You can argue for either answer. But which do you think really came first? Love came first. The Primordial Core of the universe must have emanated love prior to creating existent beings. Otherwise, existent beings would have no value.

At the very origin of things, which came first, life or love? Can you discern the answer? Love came first, then life. Since what comes second must surrender to what comes first, it is natural that people give their lives for the sake of love. This helps us understand the true way of life. Since love gave birth to our life, we should walk the path of love and ultimately die for love. The purpose of human life is to establish a love that can be welcomed by the macrocosm, not merely the microcosm. It is to live, to love, and to die participating in the universal love that is recognized by God, the angelic world, all things of creation, and our parents.

It is important to understand why human beings are born. We are not born for the purpose of attaining vast knowledge or political power. We are born because of love and for the sake of love. What makes love so great? Love is the fountainhead of life. You were born out of your parents’ love. You were not born from your parents’ desire for money or knowledge. Because you were born from love, you should bear the fruits of love. This is why you need to have children. A man and a woman each becomes complete when they become one as husband and wife and then have sons and daughters as their object partners.

Human beings cannot exist apart from love. Each of us lives on the foundation of love. Everything in creation originates from God’s love. Since all things that exist have love as their foundation, it follows that human beings, as the center of the created universe, must also have begun from love. Since we were born from love and mature through love, it follows that we cannot live separated from the realm of love.

'생명이 먼저냐, 사랑이 먼저냐?' 할 때 서로 먼저라고 할 수 있는데, 과연 어느 것이 먼저이겠습니까? 사랑이 먼저입니다. 우주의 근본이 존재 기원에 앞서서 사랑의 유통이 없어서는 존재가치가 나올 수 없습니다.

우리의 생명의 기원이 어디서부턴가를 보게 되면, 생명이 먼저냐 사랑이 먼저냐가 문제입니다. 이제까지 이것을 분간하지 못했습니다. 생명이 먼저가 아니라 사랑이 먼저입니다. 먼저 된 것 앞에 다음 되는 것은 순응해야 되기 때문에 사랑을 위해서는 생명을 바치는 것이 당연한 것입니다. 이렇게 이것은 수습해 놔야 합니다. 그러면 인생이 참되게 살 길이 어디냐가 나옵니다. 인생이 사랑에서 태어났으니 사랑의 길을 가야하고, 사랑을 위해서 죽어야 한다는 결론이 나옵니다. 소우주가 아니라 대우주가 환영할 수 있는 사랑을 찾아서 하나님이 공인하고, 천사세계가 공인하고, 만물이, 더 나아가 우리 부모가 공인할 수 있는 대우주의 가운데로 나고, 그 가운데서 사랑하고 죽어가는 것이 인생이 태어난 목적이라고 보는 것입니다.

사람이 왜 태어났느냐 하는 것을 알아야 합니다. 사람은 지식이나 권력 때문에 태어난 것이 아닙니다. 사람은 사랑 때문에 태어났고, 또 사랑에서 태어났습니다. 그러면 사랑이 무엇 때문에 그렇게 위대한 것이냐? 그것은 생명의 원천이기 때문입니다. 여러분들은 부모의 사랑 가운데서 난 것입니다. 돈을 세거나 지식을 추구하는 데서 태어난 것이 아닙니다. 이처럼 사랑 가운데 태어났으니 사랑으로써 결실해야 하는 것입니다. 그래서 자식이 필요한 것입니다.

부부가 하나되어 아들딸이라는 상대가 있을 때 완전한 것입니다. 인간 자신도 사랑을 떠나서는 있을 수 없는 것입니다. 그러므로 나의 존재는 사랑을 바탕으로 살아간다고 하겠습니다. 모든 만물도 그 존재의 시작이 하나님의 사랑으로부터 출발하고 있습니다. 만물의 존재가 사랑을 바탕으로 시작되었다 할진대, 피조세계의 중심존재인 인간은 더더욱 사랑으로 출발한 존재라는 것을 부인할 수 없다는 것입니다. 인간은 사랑에서 출발하고 사랑에 의하여 완숙되어 지기 때문에 사랑의 기준을 떠나서는 살 수 없는 존재인 것입니다.

Якщо вас запитати: «Що перше: життя чи любов?», ви можете відповісти, що кожне з них може бути першим, але як насправді? Першою йде любов. Якщо любов не починає циркулювати ще до виникнення якоїсь істоти, то ця істота не буде мати цінності. Така основа Всесвіту.

Коли ми розглядаємо походження нашого життя, постає питання: першим іде життя чи любов? Досі ми не могли в цьому розібратися. На першому місці стоїть не життя, а любов. Те, що йде слідом, повинне підпорядковуватися тому, що йде першим. Тому жертвувати життям заради любові цілком природно. Так потрібно вирішити це питання. Тоді постає інше питання: «Яким є справжній шлях життя?» Оскільки життя зароджується в любові, то випливає такий висновок: ми мусимо пройти шляхом любові та заради любові померти. Знайти любов, яку вітатиме не мікрокосм, а макрокосм, народитися, кохати й померти в любові макрокосму, яку визнає Бог, світ ангелів, усе суще, а також наші батьки. Я вважаю, що це і є мета, з якою народжується людина.

Ми маємо знати, чому люди з'явилися на світ. Вони народилися не через знання чи владу. Вони народилися через любов та з любові. Отже, чому любов така велика? Тому що вона є джерелом життя. Ви народилися в любові своїх батьків. Ви з'явилися на світ не тому, що ваші батьки рахували гроші чи ганялися за знаннями. Оскільки ви народилися в любові, ви маєте принести плоди своєю любов'ю. Ось для чого потрібні діти. Подружжя набуває завершеності, коли досягає єдності і в нього з'являються сини й дочки.

Людина не може існувати без любові. Я б сказав, що її існування засноване на любові. Існування всього сущого теж бере початок із Божої любові. Якщо існування всього сущого почалося на основі любові, то неможливо заперечувати, що людина, центральна істота світу творіння, ще більше зобов'язана любові своїм існуванням. Вона бере свій початок із любові та завдяки любові досягає зрілості. А отже, людина не може жити у відриві від еталону любові.

Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon gave this speech on the occasion of the founding of the Universal Peace Federation on September 12, 2005. It was also given in the UPF inaugural world speaking tour to 10 nations and in the rallies for the Return of the Homeland to God, held in 180 nations in 2006.

Peace Message I

This speech was given by both Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon during a series of assemblies for Ambassadors for Peace, Segye Times investigative reporters and other leaders in Korean society, which took place in March 2006, and in the rallies for the Return of the Homeland to God, held in 180 nations during the same year.
