Section 2. Purpose Of Man And His Values
1) Purpose Of Man
① Essential Purpose
Rev. Moon has walked the ascetic path throughout his life, and moreover, has been agonized over the essence of the Universe and the reality of the existence of God. Rev. Moon came to know vividly the very existence of God through the ascetic life shedding tears and blood.
Rev. Moon has experienced seeing God, the Essence of the Universe, face to face, and recognized that one cannot discuss true peace on Earth without attaining peace with God.
God is the First Cause of the world of creation, and the Creator of the Universe. God is our beloved Father. God created the Universe to realize His special purpose. That special purpose is to put Love into practice.
Even though God is the origin of true love, Almighty God alone cannot experience the joy of love. God needs the object of love, the love partner, and seeks the return of love from the object. The greatest creation among all things is we humans.
For this reason our life has purpose. The purpose of life is to practice a true love relationship with God after maturity. This is the fundamental principle to establish the peace between man and God. (166-131, 06/01/1987)
We know well enough that everyone on earth including ourselves wants to be good. It is well known that human history has been headed in this direction up until now, and that educators and religious leaders also have struggled and fought to set up standards of goodness.
Therefore, it is the purpose of one's life that one should live for good, ness and die for goodness. One cannot deny that it is not only the purpose of one's life but also the purpose of human history which has knitted our lives together. (24-13, 06/22/1969)
Of course, it is important for one to live well and to accomplish one's own work. Above all one has to practice filial piety toward the vertical heavenly Parents. One has to practice patriotism toward the vertical heavenly Parents.
One has to practice royalty toward the vertical heavenly Parents. One has to do one's best more than a Saint's toward the vertical heavenly Parents. For this essential purpose we are born. To meet such a person God created man. There is such purpose there. (58-227, 06/11/1972)
Where is the true way for a man to follow? Where are we born? We are born in love. Which way should one tread? One should tread the way of Love. How to die? One should die for Love. This is the conclusion. The problem is what kind of love is this Love? It should be welcome not by a small realm but by the great Universe.
It must be authorized by God. It must be approved by the angelic world. It has to be approved by the Creation. It is our purpose of life that our parents are to be born in the great Universe, lead their lives there, practice love there, and die there. (83-160, 02/08/1976)
When people live in goodness they want to share the goodness with their parents, brothers, and relatives. Goodness equals happiness. Happiness is related to eternity. The eternal essence is heart. What is the center of the Universe? It is the parents and the son. In other words it is the Parents and me. God is Father, I am His son. The ultimate purpose of life is to find the Father and to unite with Him unceasingly. (12-102, 12/16/1962)
② The Purpose of our We
What is the utmost purpose of life? What is the utmost purpose of the fallen man? I think that "So faith, hope, love abide, but the greatest of these is love," (I Corinthians 13:13) is a very good verse indeed. (16-133, 01/02/1966)
To what do we set our purpose of life? We have to set our purpose not to an individual purpose, nor to a family purpose, nor to a group purpose, nor to a national purpose, nor to a worldly purpose, nor to a purpose for heaven and earth, but to the joint purpose of God and man centering on God.
Then, which of these purposes will remain to the last?
The individual purpose fades away, the family purpose fades, the worldly purpose fades, but if there is any which will remain to the end, that is the purpose pursued by God and man jointly. (41-320, 02/18/1971)
Where would be the terminal point, the safe arrival of your mind? Even if one finds God, and occupies Him, things would not rest there. Then, where would be the final destiny of one's mind? It would be the place where one occupies God and His Love.
Therefore, it will be all in vain if one cannot occupy God's Love. What will be the final goal of one's life? It is not just to meet the one who is the center of heaven centering on God but to live with him.
Meeting him, living with him is one thing; but the real problem is where you meet him, where you live with him. The place you want to meet him and you want to live with him might be the center, but that is where God's love dwells.
Therefore, the utmost purpose towards which the human heart heads is to be united with God, to follow the heavenly path, to occupy God's Love and to make it one's own. A conclusion is that's it. (24-17, 06/22/1969)
What is the final destiny a person seeks to attain? It is to be an object of Love of the Supreme Being. It is to know that the Supreme Being is God as well as our father. (65-44, 11/13/1972)
③ Dual Purpose
We humans possess a double structure. We are ourselves born and situated as a resonator and a mediator of the spiritual world and the physical world. (127-154, 05/07/1983)
Whether male or female, one consists of dual structure: mind and body. The mind is vertical while the body is horizontal. One cannot be situated nor positioned without passing the horizontal and vertical origin. Thus: wrong positioned, deformed, upright, right are not determined without vertical and horizontal standards. The position is not determined without them. Neither East nor West direction is determined without them. (172-264, 01/24/1988)
We can catch the logical basis of justification in that the purpose of the individual and the purpose of the whole which the Unificationists emphasize have a historically appropriate logical basis. Then, what is the purpose of the individual? It is to be complete as an individual. The purpose of the whole is to complete the whole. Therefore, it is true that where there is no completion of the purpose of an individual there is no access to the purpose of the whole. (108-162, 09/28/1980)
Human beings have physical purpose and mental purpose. Then, which of these is the greater purpose? Which of these should we accomplish first? The mental purpose should be accomplished first. Let us assume that there are a small individual purpose and a big individual purpose. Then if one abandons the small one for the sake of pursuing the big purpose, it generates a plus factor. Hence, it benefits the small purpose and it also causes the accomplishment of the big purpose.
The communist acknowledges the objective world. He says that it is subject to the destructive fighting in history. For this reason Communism will perish someday. Human beings have the object of life from the very beginning of their birth: the purpose for the whole and the purpose or the individual. Man is born with a dual purpose. (19-296, 03/10/1968)
2) Value Determination Of Human
① Fallen secular values and alternatives
What does a man expect today? What is the ultimate goal to attain today? It is to be well off. It is to be well off all together. But What do you mean by "being well off'? Since the root is uncertain and the budding of the object is obscure people finally seek peace centering around themselves, to seek happiness centering around themselves and to seek satisfaction centering around themselves. Hence, they succumb to the pitfall of pleasure-seeking.
Since people think that death is the end of life, man wants to be well off in the ideal world they have made. He wants to cut a brilliant figure on the world's stage. In the end one succumbs to the pitfall of pleasure-seeking. All of the ethics and moral standards in the United States today are fallen.
There are many aspects of the "fall of value." Today the historical tradition is rejected, and parents, brothers, husband and wife relations in a family are destroyed. All other relations are removed for the sake of individual personal pleasure. But this is absolutely flabbergasting. (172-15, 01/03/1988)
That's why they are making a fuss about the fall of values and the de-ideology. That is why we are now in a time when we need a leader who can lead the world with independent ideas.
Economic problems are not the problem, scientific problems are not the problem. "How nice it would be to have a man like a true treasure. It would be great if there was a master who could present a new revolution and depict the ideal land of life, and a master who could lead a truly valuable individual to a valuable world through a valuable family." (85-97, 03/02/1976)
Therefore, in this world today, we must have clear values. You have to have values that go beyond the world view. The United Church places the center of its values on God.
Our argument is not "Let's go back to the ideal world." It's "Let's Go Back to God." Without returning to God, there is no ideal world, no happy world, no eternal world, no world of love.
Why? For every cause of happiness, every cause we desire, must be initiated by God. That's why I have to go back to God. You should know that it is the institution called religion that has appeared in human history that adored it and sought it.
Then, what kind of thinking should we, the corrupt people, have? You have to have unlimited values. Today, the world is fighting between the communist world and the democratic world, but in the end, everyone gets tired. When people can't do it alone, the time of exhaustion gradually approaches. People are not the only ones who cook the world, so you must be tired.
From this standpoint, thankfully, what does the United Church offer? We offer absolute values and we offer true parents.
What is the standard of absolute value that we want? Where is the end point? To be a child of a true parent. To be a child of God who can have eternal life and eternal love. There is no other way. Isn't that right?
When Adam and Eva were corrupted, they did not form a relative ideal in God's forgiveness. I did whatever I wanted. It is only the fate of the father and son that God can forgive and start with a relationship. However, since it broke down and collapsed, we have to patch it up again into the standard shape. There is no way to avoid that. (68-133, 07/29/1973)
② Value Determination Of Human
If you understand each other's feelings, everyone becomes a child of God. Human values do not depend on the cultural background, historical environment, or the position of the times. Nothing determines human value. Human values are determined only when man knows the heavens, knows the earth, and knows the purpose of heaven, the purpose of the earth, and the purpose of man. (15-83, 09/29/1965)
Values are determined by objectives. What are we born for, what are we living for, and what are we going to die for? It's not to be someone's wife, it's not to be someone's husband. We were born for one purpose. (13-269, 04/12/1964)
What's more valuable? For a greater purpose, you must know that a more valuable path will be established only in establishing a self-directed self, pioneering its path, and absorbing relative authority, for the purpose of this principled God and God alone.
To sum it up and put it simply, God is first, The Way Of God’s Will is second, and third is himself. In this way, we must seek the fourth relative sphere. It is necessary to organize the idea that only this path can create a more valuable path.
It's only possible through this road. And that's not the end of it. It is only by repeating it all the time as a motive for a second purpose and a second departure that its value results. (66-267, 05/15/1973)
We have to look for new values and focus on them. We must seek new values for the world, new values for humans, new values for ideology, or new values for love.
When the values start with contents that can be consistent with God's will, those values are different from those centered on humans. It is different from the values set around human ideals.
There is a difference between heaven and earth. Their values must not be separated, but they must be connected within the real world of evil, and bring happiness above any happiness in the world of evil.
If you don't find such a philosophy, you can't set a standard for perseverance and overcoming it, that is, enduring it. Therefore, the world is now in agony at the boundary between denying reality and finding higher-level values.
The existential philosophy was born from that perspective. In order to overcome reality, we must present internal values that can overcome reality. You must understand that presenting these inner values is an important issue in modern philosophy.
The values are not formed by humans. No matter how hard we try, we can't do it. It has been proven and has come within a certain range. What is important here is transcendental value, higher dimensional value. The content should not be vague.
It is impossible to understand that the future should be like this, just as it was in the past. In real life, we need to have practical content that can overcome and overcome environmental problems, focusing on our feelings of life, and the question is how to master them. (44-222, 05/23/1971)
③ Human standards of value
Everyone, there are times when people criticize people saying, "This person is good, that person is bad." So, what is the basis for this? The criteria are vague when we focus on the question of where and in what environment we are talking about.
Today the earth is full of people living with such vague standards. No matter how happy a man is in the morning and in the evening, his joy becomes like a flower that blooms and soon falls unless it is related to a consistent purpose.
What will remain at the end of your life if you draw joy from this position? It only leads to a life of emptiness and loneliness. (41-134, 02/14/1971)
When we discuss a man's worth, we cannot describe him as a fine man just because his outward appearance is good. What do you focus on when you evaluate people's worth?
It's a person's standard of thought and conscience.and the extent to which emotional problems lie in their thoughts and conscience standards, they discuss their personalities. (6-303, 06/14/1959)
What are the human values? You can't set a value standard without love. The word love is established within the relative ideological sphere, so the value criteria of each other are also established within the relative ideological sphere. (51-161, 11/21/1971)
④ The formation of values
Just because a man is superior to himself doesn't mean that everything goes well. It is only when you have a relationship with the relative world and have a relative relationship that your personality values appear there. It means that if you do something that a person can't do, it's worth it. (27-128, 11/30/1969)
No matter how wonderful God may be, love cannot be built by itself. Reverend Moon stands here, but there is also love in Reverend Moon. I have a lot of love. When it comes to love, why don't you shout "My love!" to yourself? They will say, "You're crazy.
"But it's no wonder that someone kisses a small one-yen coin. Therefore, we must know the infinity of relative values. (136-111, 12/22/1985)
God is an absolute man who possesses absolute creativity, so he pursues the existence of absolute object values. This cannot be replaced by anything of this earthly creation.
In terms of value, relative existence is something that cannot be changed by giving God. The word "relative value" is a little difficult, but the value of the object, centered on the word "relative," cannot be changed even if God is given. If you give God, you will be alone. It remains as Hananim (one person: God).
Therefore, he puts himself in, and consumes his own power and energy. It's a war of attrition. Therefore, it is human beings who have created objects that cannot be replaced by God. In this way, you have to know that the existence of absolute value is human. God created man as a valuable being with such ideas.
By the way, it was not made vaguely in the making of human beings. It's not vague. There was God's own belief that "this will surely happen." (68-131, 07/29/1973)
⑤ Human values are great
How great is human value Human beings are the things that God can hold on to and miss for the last year and many years. When Mr. Moon of the United Church thought about it carefully, this was the foundation of the universe. This relationship between the inside and the outside establishes a world view of love, vertically and horizontally. Don't you think so?
Because the relationship between the upper and the lower and the left and the right, the world view of love unfolds.God is present at the center. No? It's the center of the vertical and horizontal where you can tie it tightly together in a deep valley. Right?
If you don't tie it up, the horizontal and horizontal standards will not appear as the ideal form of love. No matter how many verticals there are, horizontal ones don't come out. We must know that this is how we made men.
From this point of view, is it a sin of disrespect or a just act to bring God into our hearts (Justifiable). If you were to have God in your heart, how would you put it in? Rather than welcoming you with care, you're not going to be invited because you're going to rush into a world of contention these days, are you? No? That's right. (48-219, 09/19/1971)
How great is human value? We have such great weapons that God will not be able to speak. If there was a museum in the world that preserved humans, would there be a lot of beautiful women in the museum and not many people who were not beautiful? Think about it.
Do we have more beautiful women and less beautiful men to deal with? That's how you can balance it. It is so when God sees it.(161.139) (161-139, 01/18/1987)
